Mildew? No Problem

One of the first things you should think about is whether you have any damage from mold or mildew in your stucco. This can be a very tricky problem to diagnose. When you feel that you have the problem, it is best to leave the stucco alone until it is completely dry.

You also want to inspect the stucco for any repairs. If there are repair patches that are missing, try to identify them and repair them. The job will take a little time, but it will be worth it in the end. A patch from mold can be removed later, but there may be health issues involved.

Once you have identified potential repairs, start with the main painting area. Paint this area lightly. It is much easier to do this before the stucco hardens, and the paint dries to the surface.

Avoid using primer to protect your paint. This can cause permanent damage to the stucco. If the stucco is properly protected by primer, then do not use primer to paint over it. Do not apply more than one coat of primer to prevent any damage to the stucco.

Remove existing coating

As you complete this first stage of stucco repair, you may also want to remove any cement sealer or other sealers. Many people will use these to protect their stucco. They like the color, but they often neglect the coating that was applied before the stucco was laid. By removing the cement coating before you paint, you will notice that the stucco is much easier to paint over.

Once you have completed the first painting phase, you will then proceed to repaint the entire stucco. You should be very careful when applying stucco sealer to your entire room. This can be very difficult if you do not know what you are doing.

Avoid damaging your stucco. If you try to scrape off the paint, then you will damage the stucco underneath the paint. If you apply too much paint and scrape off the stucco underneath, the paint will run into the cracks and will cause more problems. Use the minimum amount of paint that is required, to avoid any damage to the stucco.

Painting Stucco

Now that you have completed the actual stucco repairs, you can repeat the process as needed. However, if the repairs seem to be doing little to repair the damage, then you may need to change the stucco colors to make them more uniform. To make these changes, all you need to do is apply a new layer of stucco sealer and paint it with the new color.
